START SMALL, THINK BIG. Flowers.ae discovers the secrets of achieving business success in the Gulf region
For Martin O’Gara and David Ferguson, who started their own company, Flowers.ae, in the UAE 18 months ago, it was literally not a bed of roses, initially. Originally market leaders in Ireland for online flower delivery, the company drew massive benefit from the fact that both the bosses, Martin and David, are fully-trained florists themselves.
“My advice to any business owner would be to know all aspects of your business. It is a key factor to the success of your brand or company,” counsels Martin.
The company focuses on areas such as the corporate, weddings, retail, online and gifting services. While there are many flower companies across the UAE, they tend to focus on just one area. They either specialise in wedding and events or they are merely a retail outlet with some online presence. “We offer the full package. The aim of our business is to establish the company as a market leader in the UAE. We are growing all aspects of our business and have just recently secured commercial premises on Jumeirah Beach Road which will give us a welcomed retail presence in Dubai,” explains Martin. During his time in Dubai, Martin managed to build many relationships with business networks such as The Irish Business Network. This enabled him to market his brand to the corporate sector and most importantly the hotel industry in the UAE.
